Default 2008 Touring Family and Handle Bars

So according to the Harley Catalog for 2008 there are ONLY 3 sets of Bars available...

This is due to the fact that the 2008's have a CABLELESS THROTTLE SYSTEM...

the 3 the catalog lists are:
Fat Handle Bar for Road King #56032-08 (1 1/4" Screaming EagleChrome Bars)
Tallboy Handlebar #56184-08
Chrome Electra Glide Handlebar #56036-08

ALL OTHER BARS WILL NOTWORK (according to my dealer) on a 2008 because the new bars on the throttle side are cut 1/4" shorter then the left side and are NOTCHED to accept the "Twist Grip Sensor Kit"... I was also informed that EVERYTIME you change your bars you have to purchase a new "Twist Grip Sensor Kit" because you can't remove them from used bars...

Hope to hear all input on this...

THANKS!!!

RON

I was looking foward to changing my bars but I guess I am going to be waiting a while...

Here is a picture of my Khromewerks 300505 FLH Sweeper bars that are 1" higher and 2" farther back. I adapted them for my bike. HD's instruction sheets for their own bars indicate that you can reuse the throttle sensor. I have read and reread the instruction sheets. I also have a set of Kuryakyn ISO grips that I have adapted for my bike. If you are creative, you are not limited to HD's 3 sets of bars. It is true that the aftermarket has not come out with bars or grips yet, but you can adapt any set that you want.

Wow! So are the 2008 RoadGlide handlebars the same? I mean not many options to upgrade? I have a 2007 RG and have Wideglide bars. My friend just bought a 2008 RG with the idea of installing the same bars as mine. I guess that is shot down. Any suggestions?

I'm getting my new Road Glide next week and I not a fan of the handlebars. WideGlide bars were the original plan. I'll let you know what I find out from the dealer. If anyone knows of a chubby wideglide bar that fits, please respond.

As I stated above, you can adapt a set of bars to fit. You can put wide glide bars on your road glide, you just have to cut the notches in the end and an oval cutout between the knurls. Wild Ones makes a bar for the road glide that you can use.
