Default My Road King With 16" Apes

Got my install done a couple of weeks ago. For anyone thinking of doing it yourself, if you can read the manual and follow directions, it's not too bad. It's just a little involved. Seems no one thing comes off without taking something else off.

Check the pics.

Nice apes you have there. I went with 18", myself. I love them. Unfortunately, my windshield does not. I had mine with the shield on, and the apes in line with the forks, like you do now. When I took the wife on the bike, she found that I was leaning excessively on her. I found the reason was that the bars were back, in line with the forks. I took the shield off, and pushed the bars more forward, thus freeing up some room for her. Problem now is that the shield will not engage, all the way. With winter coming, though, I think I will move them back enough to get the shield on, to block some of the wind. Then next summer, remove the shield and push them forward. It is either that, or get a short shield, or modify the one I have. I hate to cut the shield, so I think moving them back is the easier option, for winter time.

I paid to have mine done, and regret that. I now know I could have done it myself, but I was to apprehensive, at that time. Live and learn. LOL

I don't have as big of apes as you. I just got my chubby 14" apes in yesterday. I have a friend who I paid to put my bars and new braided cables on for me. When I seen my bike, I knew I had done the right thing. He tore down my bike, and had everything apart. I didn't know he had to take of the tranny case cover, but I guess he need to in order to hook up the new clutch cable. I know he is good, but I got a sick feeling in my stomach when I saw my baby torn apart. Anyways, he hooked up the new bars and I sat in the seat to adjust them so he could mark them. I can't wait until I can try them out. I hope they are ready for the Sebring ride.

Please post a pic if you can. I have been dying to see those on a bike.
