Default Tour Pak Cable

I bought my Ultra in mid July.

I have over 4000 miles on it and can't wait to add more.

Not one single problem, except........................

The cable thatcatches the tour pak lid when you open itis driving me nuts.

It keeps jumping to the outside of the pak when I close the lid.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Have you come up with any solutions?

Is there an aftermarket fix?

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I didn't find anything when I searched.

Yea, have same problem. the only fix i am aware of is a sliding metal aftermarket fix. it's pretty expensive, about $80-90 if i recall correctly. Someone can give us a weblink i'm sure.

Not to worry. I had the same problem with my tour pack.

I simply had to learn that when I close the lid, I take my left hand and pull the cable to stay to the left. Using my right hand, I gently close the lid, keeping the cable inside the pack. It fust became part of my routine when closing the lid.

I'm glad you are enjoying your new ride.

Someone send me this link to the "Ultra Brace": http://eglidegoodies.com/

Is this the aftermarket fix you were talking about?

Does anyone know of anything else?

That's one version. it has a pivot in the middle. Had that on my 95 UC and it worked well. Generally have to push up on the pivot before you start to close it. It'll hold the lid open even if a 18 wheeler comes by while you're on the side of the road.

I believe J&P Cycles has an aftermarket brace, Like I said I believe, you can check their web site for it.

I am cheap... took a small bungy cord and hooked one end to the cable in question and the other end to the lid organizer. There is just enough tension on it to pull the cable inside the box when I close it.

Have the same problem, can't see spending any coin to change it. I think "Akitakoi" has the right idea. Try to loosen the rivet and/or add a few drops of 3 in 1 oil and maybe it will allow the grommet to move more freely.

there is a simple NO COST way to hand this, on the lid side, where the cable has the eye that swivels, the cable hangs down at that point, take the cable, loop the swivel pointed upward, place a piece of tape that holds it that way, the cable will come in the box every time from that point forward.....
