I have a Garmin 2720 mounted to my classic. Bought the hardwire from Garmin. Wired it into the factory accessory harness on the bike. Used the RAM mount system to mount it. Works great, but the RAM mount ball looks pretty ugly when the GPS is not on. You can also plug the audio cable into the aux port on your radio and hear the voice commands through the sound system when in AUX mode. You might search through this forum, I posted a similar post several weeks ago and got some good tips.

The only advantage to the HD quest is the HD dealers all loaded but I have a file with them somewhere also. Other than that I would purchase the quest 2 online somewhere I am sure you can find a decent price. the you will need two parts from HD. one is the is mount kit for you bike. that is no problem HD can look that up. The other some one who already purchased one has the part number for. HD has no listing last I knew but you can buy it with the part #. I can get it for you later. I am at work now.

The HD mount kit is around $54 and the other part is Around $100 but that makes you quest plug rite in.

Does anyone know how to wire the sound on the Garmin 27XX to break in over the radio instead of having to switch to AUX?

Thanks,

I would think to do that, you would have to find where the Intercom input enters, and "Y" into that (so the bike thinks it's getting the Garmin audio from a rider headset).

Sounds ambitious, but if anyone knows how, I would LOVE to hook up my Garmin that way.

Does anyone have any experience with the Tom Tom GPS made specifically for motorcycles? A friend has the car version and it blows my Garmin Street Pilot away. It's expensive but I'm thinking I may add it to my RKC someday.

A grand plus seems like a lot of scratch for a bike GPS. The Tom Tom IS nice (Big Touch screen, antiglare screen, 3D rendering, etc), but my $350 Garmin Quest does 95% of anything I would ever want in a GPS.

The (Tom Tom) car units thus far appear quite reliable. I would presume that the bike unit is similar.

A good review on the Tom Tom Rider:

Here is a Pic of my 05 Ultra W/ my Street Pilot III I also use a Garmin 2610 & I like it better becouse It is water resitant for 30 Mins under 3ft of water according to Garmin. I also use the Chrome Ram mount. it's easy to install & remove in about 30 Sec's. During the Thanks Giving Week I left NJ on that Sunday & Went down to Fla. & Came back the day after Thanksgiving, the Garmin worked flowlesly & I drove 2806 miles/ Love My Garmin's & Love My 05 Ultra

I called Garmin to confirm the Quest 2 has a solid state drive with no moving parts. They recommend the unit for use on motorcycles.

I have the HD Garmin unit with the HD mount.

I have had 2 of the tips break where the case that holds the GPS unit that slides into the mount broke. I called Garmin and complained, and they sent me two new ones. No complaints since. Still have the spare.
