SG all the way. The RG fixed fairing scare me away from it. I do like the look of both bikes.

Too much talk about looks here...I thought baggers were SUPPOSED to be about practicality, not profiling on the boulevard?

For my first bagger I chose the RG. Just stand back and look at a SG and a RG side by side. From a logical standpoint, which bike do you think is gonna handle better on the highway? There isn't one person on this forum that can convince me that a batwing type fairing is gonna handle better than a fixed fairing. And at high speeds, the RG is like a bullet train without the rails.

As far as aesthetics, if you hate sleek contemporary styling, then I guess the RG isn't for you (that's not to say that the SG isn't beautiful, 'cause it is). I was very pissed off about the silver powder coat finish on the engine and trans (again, practicality?), but that's they way they come. I inquired about a custom option for black and got a firm no-go on that. I choose black pearl paint as I felt it blended in well with the silver pc, some of the other colors made the silver pc standout too much, imo. After having the bike for about a month now, I'm already finding out that the silver finish is easier to maintain than the black, but time and miles will be the true test. Also, from a service standpoint, if you wrench on your own bikes, again, take a real hard look at the two side by side.

Oh, and if you don't like things that go vibrate in the night, you might want to look elsewhere...

Thank you for all of the responses.

I probably need to ride them both (when there aren't 3 inches of snow on the ground), just wanted to get some feedback from people who ride them on a daily basis.

The silver engine is a bit of a turn off on the RG. I know, has nothing to do with practicality, but neither does owning a Harley.

Is there any noticeable handling difference between the fixed fairing vs. the one on the Street Glide?

And I guess one can always get a taller windshield... The suspension bottoming out is a bit of a concern, my RK Custom has the same shocks, and quite frequently when riding two up or carrying more luggage it seems to be an issue. Maybe I do need to screw with the air suspension a bit more...

Did you say "practicality" when talking about a Harley Davidson? You're kidding right?...

JWalker,
Ride them both and pick the one you dig more! No one can tell you what "YOU" like (unless you're married ) thats something you have to figure out for yorself. Both bikes are great, one handles a little better, the other has more bells and whistles. I love both bikes and was faced with the same descision. Which ever one you buy you will be happy with it...

"practicality".... I am still laughing....

Hey Guys,

Let's not get into a tiff over which bike is best. They are both great. Which one makes your heart smile when you look at it? I love my roadglide but find myself drooling over a 103 ci. Streetglide at my dealership (they put a 103 ci and lots of extras on a streetglide). I rode classics and ultras for years. Did some very long rides with a batwing fairing and never noticed any wind buffeting until I got my roadglide.
