Default Hot Engine Question

With all the issues with baggers running hot or not, would it be a good idea to use HD digital oil temperature gauge dipstick. I seems that this would be a simple solution if in fact your engine was running hot. I just purchaced an 06 UC and have felt the heat coming off the engine during heavy traffic. I did have the dealer install V/H slip ons and SE air cleaner with the remapping. I have to say that it seems to run great with just 300 miles on it.

It's my understanding that the engine isn't running hotter. It has 40% more fin area and it sheds more heat than the Evo engine. The digital thermometer is a good idea though.

Forget the dipstick...you have to be stopped and off to read the damn thing, so it's kinda late at that point, eh?

Better bet...go to Wally's Cycle World and get the oil temp guage that replaces the ambiant air temp guage (a useless device...we all know what the air around us is like!), that way you can constantly monitor oil temp underway.

If you don't have anything to do with your extra money then get the temp guage dipstick. I would have to agree with nmfxstc and install the oil temp guage in the dash and lose the ambient temp guage. It only shows you the temp inside the batwing and it never indicates the correct temp.

Good luck and congrats on your new ride. Post some pics when you get a chance.

I must agree as well. Heck, my dealer told me the oil dipstick/gauge is pointless. Just more glamorous HD marketing.

twinkies do run hotter than evo's that is why there is more fin area and increased fin area is why you feel more heat, install the gauge in dash so you can worry about it or just run a good quality syn oil
