My 06 Ultra will play CD's both store bought and burned.
I have nothing but problems trying to play a burned MP3 Cd

I burned a few for a roadtrip and nothing. I have had the stereo lock up a few times when I tried to play the MP3 CD.

MY 5k service is due and I want to have them replace my stereo

Jeff
good luck getting it replaced, mines been in the shop twice and have a third appointment schedule for the next month. If there is something wrong with the radio they'll send it back for refurb and leave you bike sitting while its getting done. If mine has to be refurb this time I'm justing going to jerk the thing out and put in an aftermarket radio. The biketronics kit will allow you to use the handlebar controls.

I would think it would be cheaper to use an mp3 player . Than it would to replace the radio ? I have an 05 also , That does not play mp3's on A cd .

HD came out with the factory radio that plays mp3's in 2006 on all the touring models.

2005's won't play mp3's as you can see. Gotta buy an external one.

I got the OEM HD Roadtec one as seen below and hard wired the power and line out pluggedinto the aux input of the '05 radio. Holds a MAX of ~100 songs on a 1 gig card - cannot go more even with a 2 or 4 gig card which sucks.

No complaints here with volume with - FOUR HOGTUNES - actually TOO LOUD - even on the highway!!!

I have a 2005 Electra Glide Classic with the stock radio/CD player. Although it has a MP3 aux input I would like to play MP3 files burned on a CD like I do in my truck. I heard that Harley came out with a CD player that will read MP3's on the 2007 models. Is this correct? If so, does anyone know if I can pull out my 05 radio and replace it with a 07 radio that plays MP3's and still use factory controls?

Thanks in advance.
Hey! That's a defect in your 05! The MoCo should ante' up and send all you 05 guys new radios that play the mp3s!

What's up with that?! (just kidding)

There's a bit more to it than just throwing an 06 and up HK radio in an 05 chassis and calling it good.

The speakers are different impedance, the wiring harness is different, etc.

It would be infinitely cheaper to buy an mp3 player and plug into the aux.

I have an 06 and it plays mp3 discs just fine.

correct the 05's can not read mp3 files via cd... but if you put an external device that reads mp3's on through the jack... the signal will go through your stereo.. i would assume you could upgrade to a newer harley unit but..... what i put on my standard was the biketronics stereo which allows u to still use the hand controlls...it is able to read mp3 cd's and sounds much better than stock harley....

or keep stock stereo buy a zumo 550 and listen to mp3 through the zumo....
