KBB retail figures using YOUR zip code so they should be fairly accurate (15227)
December 4, 2005
2003 Harley-Davidson FLHRI Road King
2-Cylinder
4-Stroke
1450cc
Suggested Retail Value $16520
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the unit has been fully reconditioned and is in excellent condition. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the unit's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.

KBB trade in value
December 4, 2005
2003 Harley-Davidson FLHRI Road King
2-Cylinder
4-Stroke
1450cc
Trade-In Value (Good Condition) $11815
Trade-in Value is what consumers can expect to receive from a dealer for a trade-in unit assuming an accurate appraisal of condition. This value will likely be less than you would receive from a private party sale because the reselling dealer incurs the cost of safety inspections, reconditioning and other costs of doing business. Trade-in values are based on clean units in good condition, with all original standard equipment. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above.

Yes, there may be an issue with it running lean for a long time. It could be due to an improper download, install of the A/C, or even a leaking intake gasket.
My suggestion would be to take it to a wrench you trust and get his honest assement. You may be getting this great deal because it may already have engine damage from this condition. There are some very sharp wrenches on this board who may chime in also. Listen to them over me.
If the engine is good, take all that money you saved and adjust the fuel mix (if that's the problem) and buy some new pipes. You will still be well ahead of the game.
Good luck.

There are some pipes that do turn gold like that and not necessarily indicate a problem with mixture. It's more of a design problem than anything else. The extras don't figure in as much as you would think on a purchase of a used bike except when you buy it from a dealer and then they usually work you over then.
