&nbsp\\;I switched to Redline shockproof heavy in the tranny and a slight shift shaft leak disappeared. I would never fill the oil or tranny to the full mark. Just asking for trouble.

Same here ... switched to Redline Shockproof Heavy.&nbsp\\; Only drips now when the bike gets very hot during 100 degree summer rides.&nbsp\\; Certainly not bad enough to pull it apart.

When the shifter seal leaks, isn't it primary fluid???&nbsp\\; That is what mine looks like.
&nbsp\\;
engine - Mobil Vtwin
tranny - shockproof heavy
pri - MTL

No, if the shifter shaft seal is leaking it will be tranny fluid, in your case it would be red in color.

On my FLHRCI 05 I had to put the new seal in as well, 25 months 6K just out of free fix mode. Stealer told me live with the drip. I pulled the primary and put a nice chrome one on while it was apart. Oil will leak if the seal is bad you can count on it.
cost of seal, less than $ 2 BUCKS.

My shifter shaft seal is leaking for the second time.&nbsp\\; I had it replaced under warranty at 22,000 miles.&nbsp\\; Now my 05 Ultra has 53,000 miles on it and it is leaking again.&nbsp\\; I guess these seals just don't last long.&nbsp\\; How many times has anyone else replaced this on their bike.
&nbsp\\;
Just developed another leak the other day. Taking my bike in to get fixed. This will be my 4th time this seal will be replaced. Have 70,000 on my 03 Road Glide now, so that comes out to 17,000 miles per seal. Lucky the first 2 times was under warranty, now it costs me!

To bad the dealers will only use (I assume)the genuine HD seal when replaced under warranty.I will be having mine replaced under the ext. warranty this time.

I had a leak in mine 06 ultra 15,000 miles and the mechanic at the local dealer said I was putting too much oil in transmission when I change it.&nbsp\\; I put it on the high mark, maybe too much for my bike. I`m using Redline Shockproof Heavy.
dgriffith:&nbsp\\; Do you use HEAVY in your trans???&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;I use it in the primary. Didn't know that was an option for the trans.&nbsp\\; I use MTL in trans.&nbsp\\; That sh$t is like different shade of blood and easy to distinguish.&nbsp\\;

Anybody: so the shifter seal leak is PRIMARY or TRANS fluid???
&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Are you sure you don't have that reversed?&nbsp\\; Most Redline users (me included) use Heavy Shockproof in the tranny and MTL in the primary.
