Default Rider Backrest Install on StreetGlide

I just installed the Rider Back Rest part #51631-06 on my Street Glide. Unlike the picture below, the hardware came with a brace on the front, that was supposed to line up with another short black brace that the instruction told me to mount to the frame behind the battery. I mounted that brace, but it was about two inches too short to reach the one on the backrest, so I just left it off. Do you think the two bolts coming out of the fender will be enough to hold?

does the backrest feel strong when u lean on it.. The small support keeps it firm... I dont know why it didnt work correctly...I ve had backrests on a 7 of my touring bikes thru the years... never didnt use that small support arm ...HMMMMMM

Yes, it feels strong. There is no way I can use the support arm unless I fabricate a new brace. The one they gave me is two inches too short. Plus, to mount the bracket so that it lines up with the slot in the seat I had to use the most forward mounting holes, which pushed it even further away from the brace.

I think you need to re-check your install. I installed the same unit with brace on my SG with no problem.

There should have been two pieces of metal one that looks like like a flat piece of metal with a bunch of holes drilled into it. This is what bolts to the bracket then it bolts to the battery box / frame. Sounds like they shorted you a piece or it was returned and the original person left it out.

jskwarek is correct. It is a two part brace.

I received both pieces. The black one was way to short to work.

This may sound dumb, but do you have it on the right way. I can't remember and don't have my bike here, but if you turn it 180 degrees on the bike will it fit???
