I have ridden thousands of miles with and with out that extra brace. I am 200lbs. and the two bolts seem to hold backrest secure enough for me. Of course I will assume no responsibility should it not work for you! lol.

I did the same install too, didn't have a problem.

I think you need to re-check your install. I installed the same unit with brace on my SG with no problem.
Same here.

It is definitely installed in the right direction...just like the picture except it has a brace that is facing forward. The black brace they gave me is not long enough, and even if it was, it would have had to have been bent pretty severely to make the right angle.

The picture above is not the same as the mounting bracket I have. It looks just like it only on mine there is a piece welded to the front of the bracket that the black piece bolts to and then bolts to the battery box frame. If needed I can take a picture of it.

Ride Safe,

I have the forward brace on my Ultra, I wouldn't want to start tweaking the fender if I leaned back and put too much weight on it, Maybe you could ask the people you bought it from, maybe they have a longer black piece.

Mine is the same way. I don't think the problem is with the actual hardward the backrest slides into, but with the short black piece. I bought this off E-Bay but I'll see if I can get them to send me a longer brace. I guess I could just go to Lowe's. It looks like it would be easy enough to just get a longer piece of metal and drill some holes in it.

Thanks Everyone.
