Your dealer has self tapping inserts for this purpose - only a couple of bucks, easy to install and work well.

You don't happen to have the part number for this threaded insert do you? I'm sure if I ask my dealer's parts guys I'll get that deer in the headlights look.

No, I don't but its pretty common. When I asked the parts guy just said, How many do you need?

Thanks for the information and tips. I need to repair my inner and outer Batwing plus a Tourpac crack. I just ordered 3M #5883 because it specifies "Rigid" ABS repairs (not flexible like bumpers). I'm going to give it a try and I'll let you know how it works. If repairs and paint don't get it done, then I'll just shop for some take-offs.

Just buy a new one it's not that expensive.
