RE: elite3's
I had E-3s on my wing, two up I got 17000 on the rear, the tire sings too much, it was okay in the wet weather and not great on the sand covered winter roads but then nothing is. My Bro had metz on his tourer and they started to shread with 10000 on them, he was lucky he found the chunks of rubber missing. Thanks for the other info on tires I need all the help I can get. Thanks

E3's come in both flavors,
interchangeable????, you probably don't want to run a bias and a radial at the same time
and yes they do, check this link;

So which ones are you using on the Ultra, Chuck??

I have Michelin Commander's mounted up right now.
I run mostly Metzeler tires on all my motorcycles. The
ride of the Michelin's is very plush on the Ultra compared
to all the other tires out there, my Ultra rides alot like my
Goldwing with the Michelin's. They seem to give the Ultra
a sport bike snappy feeling, more then all the other brands
of tires.
I'm going to run these for a while on the Ultra, I know
what their like on most other motorcycles. I want to see
how I like them on the Ultra.

I just had them put on my Ultra. (along with the IDS). Indy said they were great in the wet. their selling point for me is they have a higher load rating. We'll see how they hold up.
Chuck were those radials or bias ply that you were testing?

When I was tire testing for tire companies full time
I was testing Radial & Bias tires, street & race tires.
I did countless hours of track testing and well over
100,000 miles of street testing. The last tire testing
I did on the street was last spring on E3's for some
of my customers from my shop.

In 40+ years of street riding, racing and wrenching
motorcycles I've seen every brand of tire chunk the
tread, blow side walls out and break belts. Metzeler
is not the only one to have tire failures. Motorcycle
tires of all brands fail because about 97% of all
motorcycle riders ride on low or no tire air pressure.
I was at a rally oncethat Dunlop and Metzeler checked
3,500 motorcycles tire air pressures and not one had the
correct air pressures in them. In fact most were way under
inflated to the point of extreme danger! [:'(][&o]
I've never seen a customers motorcycle in my shop with
the correct air pressures in their tires in over 40 years..
Almost no one checks their tires before every ride like
their suppose. I do every morning because I ride every
day. Motorcycle tire failures are 99.9% caused by the
motorcycle owner and in some cases sadly it costs them
their lives or the lives of their loved ones! [&o]
