Default Fork Locking Mechanism Problem??

Had my 2002 Ultra to the stealer for state inspection last week. While there, I had themcheck/adjustthe front fork bearings.I had the bike outyesterday for the first time since then and when I tried to lock it,discovered thefork lockdoesn't work. I thought maybe the dealerdidn't reassemble the ignition switch correctly. I disassembled and reassembled this switch but it didn't fix the problem. I checked all my manuals and can't find where theyillustrate the actual locking mechanism. Can anyone suggest where I should look next.

I've got a 2000 Classic. My lock's been acting up lately so I was in my manual the othernight and found instructions how to remove/reinstall in the section about removing the inner fairing. Don't know where it might be in your 2002 manual, but you might check the fairing instructions.

Check to see that there isn't anything between your fork bumpers, I had that problem with my RK.

as rjw54 stated i had a bit of difficulty and it was those rubber donut bumpers on the upper tubes that did not allow the bike to turn fully for locking on a road king classic...

Default RE: Fork Locking Mechanism Problem??

I had the same problem when I disassembled the ignition. I made the mistake of turning the wheel to the left and it locked without the ignition in it. I spent 45 min trying to get it lined back up and then had the idea to remove the two screws that hold the entire ignition unit to the farring. It released the front end and reset the steering and ignition to center. I then re inserted the ignition and worked fine.

I hope all this makes sense.
