It seems like Harley is having trouble filling their inventory requirements to their dealers...at least around here anyway....is now a good time for a shut-down?

Same here (Eugene OR)... We wanted to see a Rocker ... Local dealer said to come back in November.

Maybe they should spend that time making Rockers. Or thinking of a new color that isn't butt ugly.

HD is predicting is first drop in per share earning in 14 years, that's quite remarkable in this economy. HD, earnings dip is predicted at 4-6 percent. Compare that to this April when Honda motor company happily reported that its earnings dip of 20% was less than the expected 27%.

The MoCo has some probs with the credit crunch, including the worry of having too much bad paper out on bike loans. They need to reduce the inventory in order to reduce pressure to sell, which in turn drives them towards financing bad loans.

Compared to Ford, Chrysler and GM, the MoCo's future looks quite good.

You must be kinda new - you might want to look at my posts before you post a comment directed to me. Or, maybe you're trying to pick a fight. Just let me know.

Ted, the newer guys may not know that you have own HD before (and again I am sure. LOL ). Also, the fact that you work as a service writer at a HD dealership. Just because you bought a Honda doesn't make you NOT one of us... at least in my eyes. Keep posting up, brother.

It seems to me that Harley is always FOLLOWING the trends, instead of CREATING them like they used to....took em forever to fatten up the rear tires on some models after several years of 200-300 tires being the trend in customs, took em all this time to get to 96" when 100+ engines have been on the market for years...and now this "Rocker"?..they have delayed release of it due to low-interest...little late for a Chopper boys....

Its not the bikes, its the economy. When things get rough, sales for motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles ect are the first to take a hit. Car sales get hit after that.

ya'll know we got the leverage here.
Put off buying a new bike for at least one year, preferably two.
Send the MOCO a letter staing why (everybody has their own reason)
(chatter, air temp, IDS, radio, dealers attitude, warranty issues whatever).
That will help get things fixed and also bring up resale value.

Besides if you invest 1/2 the price of a new bike in your current one it would be as good if not better than new.
