I don't really know how effective the carriage bolt thing is. I change the rear quick release pins out when I go on travel and expect to leave my bike in a hotel parking lot. I don't know if anyone has tried to steal the bags because they are still on the bike. I would think though, if someone got wise to the carriage bolt thing, they would just undo the bolts that hold the hanger hardware to the frame of the bike.

Yeah if they want them bad enough they will get them no matter what you do. But most theives are looking for a quick opportunity. They are not usually gonna take the time to really work for something like that. Unless the the bike s somewhere way out of site giving them time to work. That is why I always take my quick release sissy bar off the bike when staying at hotels or anywhere the bike will be out of my site for long periods of time.

That's probably true but it takes longer to get those bolts out. If they have to spend more time, it might not be worth it to them. The longer it takes the higher the chance of getting caught. But like most things, if someone wants them bad enough.....

One question though, do you put a bolt thru both holes in the bag or just one?

Man that just plain blows. I'd go the bolt route thru the front hole since it'd be a bit more awkward to get to it. Regardless, if someone wants them, they'll get them.

That sux, Forum ate my message. Anyways, lets try it again.....

Sorry Scum bags!!! Most people use to have enough sense not to jack with someones harley. Consequences were to severe!

A clevis pin with a Jesus clip or quick clip on the inside would work well and be more convienent than a bolt. They could spin it all night and never get it out.

It would be nice if there was some type cover that would cover the gap that would prevent access to the pins.

You could replace the hanger bolts with button head allen bolts. This way you could install them through the hole where the carriage bolt goes and the thief wouldn't be able to get the allens out once the carriage bolts are installed, no room for an allen key. If they messed the bags up trying to remove themthey wouldn't be worth anything to them then, chances are when they saw this they go elsewhere.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I secured mine with 1/2 bolts (from inside of the bag) and c-clips.
