For all of you that would replace a near new tire because of a nail hole, please send me your tires. I will pay the shipping and then wear them out for you. As many people as there areon this forum that think tries should be replaced instead or repaired,I should never have to buy a tire again.
Bill, there's no way you can go through all the tires these guys would throw away. How 'bout shippin' me a few of the extras?

I have to laugh when I read some of these replies. How will a tire blow out with a plug in it?? That plug will bond into the tire and you'll never ever know its in there. I just had the tire replaced on my work BMW last tuesday and I had 5 plugs in it. The guy at BMW was kidding me and said it looked like a knobby tire on the inside. You are a hundred times more likely to have a "blowout" when you get the "object" in the tire going down the road that you ever will by plugging it. I couldn't tell you how many plugs I have put in tires through the years and never had any problems. Go get you a good plug kit and plug those nail and screw holes and ride the heck out of it.You can fix the thing in less than 5 minutes and be on your way. The only way I can see replacing a tire is if it is a sidewall puncture or a very large hole in the tire bigger then your pinky finger. Now tube tires...you're pretty much screwed when you get something in them. Have to take it off and patch or replace the tube.

I just went thur the same thing, i plugged the tire to get me home. Within the next week, i took the tire off and patched it. I have repaired lots of tires, i work as a tech at a ford dealer.. if the tire was run flat, it needs to come off to see the inside, we see lots of car tires, customers says"oh no...it never went flat all the way"...lol..the inside of the tires is destoryed and outside looks fine. Also, i don't know if bike tires are the same as car tires, but with car tires, once the tire is repaired, the speed rating is no longer valid.

To be honest, I am not sure if you can plug it or not. My suggestion would be to remove it and see if it indeed punctured the tire. If not, you're good to go. If it did, then I wouldn't trust my life to a patch. Your tire is at 50% of it's life remaining and a new tire is only $110. For the money just get a new tire if it leaks...

I would just put a bottle of Ride On in it. That stuff works. I have personally pulled a 16 penny nail out of a back tire that had only 200 miles on it and didn't replace it until it had 7000 miles on it. It won't rust your rims either and if you perfer to have a patch put on you can still do that after its added to the tire, but you won't need it.Great flat protection and it has been tested by several bike mags.
