Default RAIN-X ON MY WINDSHIELD - DID I DESTROY IT?

Got caught in the rain in Sturgis. Couldn't see. This week I put "RAIN-X" on the inside and outside of my windshield and also on theface shield of my helmet. Was at a dealer function today and told one of the vendors about it. He said that I probably wrecked my windshield and helmet shield. Said they will turn milky. Is this true? If so how do I get it off? I noticed tonight that it appears like I have a coat of clear wax on the windshield. Could really use some of your help on this. Should I use an alcohol or thinner on it? Any advice would really be appreciated.

I put it on my windshield and my helmets and never had a problem. The milkly color he my be talking about could be due to UV dammage over the years of exposure. You see this milky or cloudy color in older cars headlights.

Sorry, dude - but it's done for. Nothing you can do at this point, it's a chemical reaction issue.

Shankster,

I have an 07 Ultra. It was clear just before I put on the Rain-x. Did you notice any difference on your windshield? It hasn't turned cloudy yet. Just seems as if it has a coat of something on it. Really has me paranoid.

It will leave a film on the shield as it does on car windows. I have it on my 01 Ultra and when I had my Polaris snowmobiles it was on them also. Remmeber there are different grades of plastic for shields and they may react different to Rain X. If your still worried about it clean it with glass cleaner approved for plastic.
I also have used S100 Detail & Wax from Harley on both.

voodoodrug,

Tomorrow I'm going to call the company. I read the bottle and it said "Do NOT USE ON PLASTIC". I'm really glad I read the directions after I used it.

No sir - ah wouldn't kid about a thing like that. Unless you got REAL lucky an' used the stuff made for plastic windshields, that shield is toast my friend!

HINT - you can usually tell if I'm kidding around in a string - if ah'm kiddin', ah'll type lahk ah talk - Southron. If I'm serious, there will be little to no "Southern Twang" in my comments.
