Default Top Link on 2008 Touring Models

Just got a good look at the new 2008 Touring Models. They have moved the top link motor support from under the tank to the front of the engine. It attached to the front right down tube of the frame. Looks like crap in my opinion. It sticks out there like a sore thumb.

I asked the dealer about it and found it had to be put there because of the new 6 gallon fuel tank.

Judging from some of the new things I have seen, I think I am glad I have what I do. I'm not wild about the concept of an electronic throttle instead of cables either.

One nice thing is that it appears there's more room ta access the front cylinder. Havin' said that, the drive by wire worries me as well. Interestin' in concept, but ah'm gonna be lookin' ta see what the long term reliability is....

The term is "latency" and it's already been reported by some to have a bit just off the throttle stop. It wouldn't matter too much at road speed if there were a ¼ second delay between the input and response. Just taking off or doing delicate maneuvers could be problematic with one though. Maybe, if there's any surging at all at slow steady speeds, it would be troublesome there too.

I'm thinking a small dead spot exists by design right near the closed throttle position so that it'll always be sure to go closed.

I agree. It is very sore-thumbish. And the three I've inspected closely all had a great deal of weld spatter all over the frame bosses. At least it was nicely painted-over...
