Sure we'd be happy to give you some examples....for 300 dollars an hour...
For the record you can sue anyone for just about anything if the loss is physical or mental or even completely made up! Not saying you'll win, just that you can fill out paperwork and try.
Good luck with your retirement fund...

Good luck with that, especially if you haven't suffered a loss of any type. Unless you count sleepless nights worrying about your $20,000 investment that has not met your expectations (with regards to noise) or the noise is actually causing you a loss of some sort. I have never heard of a case where somebody was compensated for nothing. If you (or your sister) are aware of any cases where someone suffered no loss and was compensated, I'd love to hear about it, because I could use some extra cash to supplement my retirement 5-10 years from now.

You can sue for this. The tranny or whatever does not have to fail to raise a complaint.
The Complaint can be noise only. People sue for less...think about it.
Especially when HD advertised that these bikes were the smoothest running, quietest bikes they have ever made.
Second, when 90% of the buyers do not experience the noise, then the other 10% can raise a complaint, as their bikes are not "normal".
Butisn't it just easier to buy the IDS and be done with it? I did, and my Sis is a lawyer (free to me). Why go through allthe trouble...

Interesting. I heard of a lady in Oklahoma City who purchased a motor home, took a trip, and while driving turned on the cruise control then got up and went to the back to make a sandwich. Of courese, the motor home left the road and crashed and she was injured but recovered. She actually sued the motor home manufacturer and dealer saying the owners manual and dealer did not make her aware that she could not do this! Amazingly, she was awarded $1.75 million and a new motor home.

bigreef,
I agree with you 100%. I got rid of the box of rocks noise with the stage 1 upgrade, but the 5th gear whine/chatter/noise is so annoying I don't even like using that gear. So when the '08's came out with the IDS, I tried to get both the stealership and MOCO to add the IDS to my 2007 for free. No dice. The Svc Dept personnel at the stealership didn't know anything about it and said the Svc Mgr would call me. Of course he never did, so I called MOCO Customer Svc. They gave me the "It's an enhancement, not a fix to a problem" line ... total BS.
I finally bought the part from Zanotti's for $218 to my door and scheduled an appointment to have it installed at the stealership. Then they called me the day before and said they couldn't do it because they needed were trying to install an IDS on another bike and found out they needed a special tool to do it and didn't have it. Said they had to order the tool from HD and would have to reschedule my appointment in a week or two. I thought ... "What a bunch of clowns."
Is this what HD customer service has come to???

Well, I went ahead and e-mailed my revised letter along with several others that I recieved to my personal e-mail. Activity slowed a bit and I figured if I recieved any more I would send those as well. This will be interesting as I sent my e-mail at 5:37 pm today and I have already recieved a response that was sent at 7:17 pm. I guess it could be automated but looks real to me. We shall see.....
Joe,Thanks for taking the time to send this to me. Please allow me a few days to get with my technical staff and we will contact you.Take care.Steve

Anyway, I'm done crapping on this thread. For the record, I think it's a damn shame that so many people are dissatisfied with their new bikes over the noise issue. Like I said earlier, I would be very unhappy if I spent $20k on a bike and it sounded like it was about to fall apart. I would hope that Harley Davidson would do something if only because it's the right thing to do or even to avoid bad PR. I'm sure the owners of these bikes wouldn't care what the company's motivation was as long as the issue was resolved. Good luck to all.

Monkfish.
Take a deep breath. The IDS will fix the noise. I know. Bought mine from Zanotti's. With the help from a Brother Firefighter took from start to finsh 1.5 hours to install. The really good news no clatter in 5th gear.
Could not believe it but it works.
Zanotti"s Dealer of the year award. My vote. The Wille Davidson award too. Hands down.
I was upset as you are. Dealer did not know what normal is. There only doing what HD tells them.
If writing the letter makes you happy, just do it on your behalf.
