I vote for the Road King Classic, nice looking motor and cruise control and you can add and remove most items to suit your taste at the moment, I have two sets of saddlebags,3 windshields and looking for a batwing later, it is nice to change it according to my whims. Short rides no windshield or the smoked Screaming Eagle windscreen, long rides a larger one and if rain possible the jumbo, use the beater bags for everyday riding, got them for 100 buck on craigslist with just a bunch of scuffs around the buckles and a small tear that you have to be close to see,it is sure nice to not wory about screwing up the cherry ones and a set of hard bags on the way too.

Ask yourself if you like the colors offered with the EG Standard silver motor.... Do you want the option of riding with or without the fairing..... How long will you keep it... as I some will pass up a bike for sale that are the standard because of the silver motor with the colors offered.... Good luck...

According to the Harly website, a couple differences I didn't see mentioned here;
Easy Reach Touring handlebars on the EGS, Buffalo Bars handlebars on the RK.
Triple Circuit Damping (TDC) front forks on the EGS, not on the RK.
Mirrors on the handlebars on EGS, in the Batwings on the RK.

I looked at the egs and the rk. The egs has the best price, or should I say lowest. The rk, although a bit more expensive, gives you more options. In the end, I bought a rk custom, which is no longer available new ('08). the choice is ultimately yours, but keep in mind, the rk is the most versatile of all the touring line. You can add a fairing, use the windsheild, or go without. I have not had the windsheild on my bike for nearly two months. It sits in the garage gathering dust. The main reason for this is because I added 18" apes, and it will no longer fit, but I like the bike better without it. In the coming months, I gotta figure something out, as it is gettibng cooler, and having some protection will lengthen my riding time.

Is the windshield on the fairing of the EG interchangeable. That is, is there an option to get the short windshield?

3 small screws, and you can change to any size windscreen you want- --for the best advice about deciding between RK or EG, see sig pic below!

Yes, two shorter ones I think. I might get the one in between some day. I wouldn't want the shortest one.
Just got my Standard last night!
