Tailgaters

Tailgaters
The last few days,i have had some really bad tailgaters,I mean, these dumbasses were drafting. 70mph 10 feet or less. I was wondering, what everyone does?.slow down?, speed up?....most of the one i have had the last few days, would never have seen my brake light. I'm almost ready to start carrying marbles or BBs in my shirt pocket to flip over my shoulder. I was looking to see what others are doing?

RE: Tailgaters
I generally try to change lanes first chance and let them go by. No sense in getting into a ****ing contest with a cager, your gonna lose. Failing that, I have extended my left hand backwards with the palm facing them gesturing for them to back up....it has worked a couple of times but, if they are just aholes, I try to let them go by, get them past me where they are less of a problem. I too have wanted to keep BB's or even Jacks in my pocket to throw at them but, once again, that is a losing battle. Hope this helps. Ride safe.

RE: Tailgaters
Sometimes I do a little weave and they back off, I've also done the "push-back" type hand signal and that worked once or twice. Many people in urban areas don't even know they tailgate.. nor do they know that you have much better brakes than they do. They're just stoooopid **sholes.

As much as I like the idea of tossing "items" back at a******s
who tailgate, I've found not only would you run out of "ammo" but
cops take a rather dim view. The only solution if backoff hand signals fail, is to slowdown and change lanes. It appears a lot of cagers don't even realize how enraged we get when they are two feet from
your rear tire. (Well some do)
Tailgating by cagers is in the same catagory of them pulling
over on the shoulder to let you by. You know, sandblasting
you with rock at 70mph!!

Just get out of the way. When he's in a car or truck and you're on a bike, it's just not worth it.
You don't have to look far to find the all too frequent incidents of road rage against bikers. Here's the scoop: when that hot-headed moron in the pickup loses it and decides to ram the bike, the bike loses every time.

RE: Tailgaters
Yes, I've almost been hit before because of it. Was stuck behind 2 cars in a 2 lane divided for several miles, well under the limit.
I made the mistake of giving a quick honk to hopefully get someone to move.
Car in the left lane was a conservative driver and apparently wasn't going to go over the limit, but would try to slow up and speed down to get out of the lane. But the car in the right would right after slow up and speed down to match its speed so that I couldn't get around. This went on for several miles going down the interstate. Driver on left just looked in her rearview and shrugged with her arms.
I decided it was obvious the car on the right was just being a dick. No doubt about it.
Real light traffic, I wanted to get home after work, full right shoulder, made up my mind I was just going to pass him on the right shoulder. Yeah, I shouldn't have, but this was just ridiculous and I wasn't going to have any more of it.
So I get over in the right of the right lane, get over on the shoulder and gun it. Well so as I'm about midway past this guy, 'bout even with his passenger window, he starts veering into the shoulder and keeps coming. So I swerve out toward the edge of the shoulder wrenching the throttle for everything it's got. And this is all happening in a blink of an eye. I shift and I wrench it again and I'm out to just about off the pavement in the shoulder and I pull all the way past him as the front right bumper of his car is not more than a foot or two from taking me out.
Well I just kept going and wanted to get the heck out of there. Saw him going back into his lane after I pulled away, and I just kept accelerating until I was down the next hill and got the heck out of there. Wasn't going to stick around to see what he'd follow it up with.
So the moral of the story is, well, don't pass on the shoulder, right, ok. But the other moral of the story is that there are plenty of wound up jackasses out there whose sole source of power in life is apparently the little bit they can get by taking it into their own hands to control how others drive on the road. Old ladies sitting in the left lane I can understand, but this, well, you know the type.
And I'm not some kind of sport bike punk; not in the least. Unless something really gets to me like this, I ride conservatively and respect other people's lanes and distances just how I'd want them to respect me on the road. I just want to go 5-10 over out on the interstate and get home from work, which up here is usually just the normal flow of traffic.
