I went through the same problem and after several bags, I bought the Kuryakyn Full Dresser bag for my Road King. I don't like most of what Kuryakyn sells, but this bag is top of the line and mounts easy around your passenger back rest. I got mind on Ebay for $159 from Eastern Performance Cycles. Kury's price is $199.This bag holds a ton of stuff and is the best travelling investment I've made.
Ronjo...
Same here.

I went back and forth on different bags and ended up buying the Full Dresser. Great choice. Sits on the detachable luggage rack and velcros around pass backrest, also a couple of qwick clip straps secure it to the rack. Very stable. Have a couple thousand miles traveling 2-up with it and it packs plenty for the wifey and me. Collaspes when not full, has a pullman w/wheels for easy dragging into the room. Strap leathers right to top.

You won't be dissappointed.

Hope it helps

What's wrong with the one that attaches to the backrest. Besides that it attaches to the backrest.....

Get this rack. Don't get the one that attaches to the backrest.

Get this T-Bag. (Has an attached dust and rain cover and top roll)

I've ridden thousands of miles two-up with this setup on my Road King Classic and I love it.

If I had seen that rack I might have bought it. I had the large rack that attached to my detachable back rest. The one BBO refers to will detach from the detachable backrest. Just a little more versatile.
I think I like my choice of Saddlemen bag is better tho.

I use Outdoor Research stuff sacks and either bungie or strap them on. Waterproof, collapsible, lightweight. You can get them in a variety of colors but I use basic black.

Another vote for the Kuryakyn/Bagtec Full Dresser bag. Tons of room and outside compartmnets. Easy on and easy off.

I bought aNelson-Rigg bag to use on the SW Mini Rally trip so I could pack rain gear, leathers, tools etc in my saddle bags, leave the tour pack open for stuff I wanted to get to quickly (camera & laptop) and have room for T-shirts that I bought on the trip. It was easy to get on and off every night and had room for all my clothes (took way too many since I bought so many T-shirts!) and my CPAP machine.

God, I hope that rig doesn't come unwound while going down the interstate.

Anyone try the Kuryakyn Grandtraveler Bag?

http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp...ey&ci=3743

I like thatit is low profile. Looks like it would be nice with a net and some rain gear & helmets on the top.

However, now I am looking at the Full Dresser bag. Thanks for all the suggestions - please keep posting.

Thanks

If you buy a Tour Pak, don't waste your time with the leather one. I made that mistake and had it just one year. Not enough room and the luggage rack doesn't work too well on them. I sold the leather one, bought a King Tour Pak with the premium rack on it then put a TBags Decker Supreme on that. Love it!!! Just my $.02 though....

I just picked up an '05 Road King Custom (sold my '03 Lowrider) and I am looking to start traveling on the bike. I am weighing out all the luggage options and would like some opinions of what seems to be the best bang for the buck.
I thought about getting the tourpack because it would seem to be the easiest to use (in my world easy use usually equals I actually use it rather than wipe dust off). However, they are pretty expensive - $400 for the leather one. Also, I am concerned that I would run out of space pretty quickly.
I will have to purchase a luggage rack (either for a tour pack or for other luggage) so that is a moot point in my decision.
I have also considered just buying a something like a T-Bag and putting it on the luggage rack. It would be a little less expensive and appears to have more room. However, it seems to be a little more hassle to tie the bag on (and off) off the bike and I am not sure how they hold up to wet weather.

So, what does everyone like to travel with concerning luggage. Obviously, if you have an Ultra this is not a concern.
Well since you have a custom you have leather saddlebags as well, hence wanting to go with the leather tourpack. Same situation here, I don't think an ABS (or whatever it is) tourpack would look good with leather bags. And if the leather tourpack is anything like the leather saddlebags, it's not waterproof either.

And you're getting more storage space using individual bags than using the tourpack.

I ride solo and when I travel I just jam my stuff in a bunch of cheap black waterproof camping bags I bought, put 1 in each saddlebag, then tie the other two across the back on the big solo luggage rack.

But if you can fit everything you need in the leather tourpack, and don't mind the price, it does look a little more refined if that's what you're after.
