Has anyone here taken a stock Harley rotor and had it turned to bring it back into true? Is it worth the effort, or should a person just get new rotors? Like point man, I find myself not using the front brakes around down and at stops just because of the imbalance created when it grabs.

A rotor can go out of tru for a few reason. Extreme braking conditions heavy traffic ormoutain roads. Not usingthe front when braking putting all the load on the rear, over weight condition or towing if a trailer is being pulled. It's also possible that the cailper is sticking. It's the heating of the metal and how quickly the metal is cooled.

You can not compare these to a car rotor.I think if you tried this there would be a ton of chatter marks because the rotor is so thin and because of the interrupted cuts..It is possible to double disc grind (consult a machine shop)themif they are flat,no steps.
Probley better off buying new.

Thank you. I thought as much, but never had a problem with a bike disc. The Harley brakes aren't near what I had on my old styleVenture. Hopefully the updates on the '08's are much better.

After a long, hot braking action, if the pad is held to the disc (as on a hill) some of the pad material can transfer to the disc. Easy to clean off with abrasives. Try this before seeing the dealer.

When I have a long brake followed by a brake hold, I switch to the brakes I used the least to hold me in place.
In stop and go traffic I tend to use the rear more to control front end dive. (this helps me control the bike when on a slope, either off camber or a grade). On the road I use only the front brake. If I scream down a hill or ramp and have to stop and hold the brakes, I'll then use the rear to hold me in place. I then have a chance to pick my nose.

I put on the floating rotors and Lyndall pads. No more pulsing and better stopping. Money well spent. Floating rotors are standard on the screaming eagle bikes. The bean counters strike again.
