Default Engine Guard/Crash Bar Fitment

Anyone physically tried to mount a chopped engine guard/crash bar from a later model Touring bike onto a pre-09 frame (specifically an 07)?? Quick measurements tell me it will fit but I can’t locate one local to me to actually try.

Thanks in advance!

The current engine guard (crash bar) has been the same for touring since 1995

Yes, I know. And this one mounts to a single point up high on the frame down tubes.

I’m looking for someone that’s tried to mount the smaller “chopped” engine guard that comes on the newer Touring bikes to an older, pre-09 (preferable an 07 model as that’s what I have) to confirm if it bolts up or does not.

Thank you.

Harley has fitment ranges for the basic engine guard for '98-'08 and then '09 and up...

So based on HD's fitment list, the basic engine guards will not fit the 2007 frame.

I compared a 2016 touring frame that it is on the fitment list for the chopped engine guard ('14 and up), to a 2007 touring frame......

They both have a two-holed bracket between the forward tubes of the frame that the chopped guards use for their top attachment point. Just looking at the parts diagrams, the brackets don't look to be the same size, in the same position, with the same hole pattern.

Several aftermarket chopped engine guards say for '14 and up...

Based on all that, I wouldn't buy the chopped guard for a 2007.

If someone chimes in that has actually done it to confirm they fit, that would be great... but shy of that, I seriously doubt they will fit without modification...

Keep us posted on what you find...

If you have to have a chopped guard for your bike, you'll have to go aftermarket. There are some that will fit prior to '09 bikes like this one by CMC. They also come in chrome here. There may be others but the ones I linked are 1 1/2" diameter. The normal engine guards are 1 1/4".

Good stuff, I’ll see if I can get a buddy to take some measurements of his bike (believe it’s a 2018) and I also have a buddy that rides a 2012 to see how much difference there is in the bracket/holes on the down tubes as well as the mounting points for the lower holes on the front/sides.

More to come!

I bought one and put it on my 2012. I had to drill holes in the center mount but it fit perfectly. I measured one at the dealership and purchased off of ebay.

You drilled holes in the center mount of the crash bar or on the mounting tab between the downtubes of the bike??
