2014 Road King Police passing/emergency lights
Okay, I am new to this forum. I have been reading on here but have not found anything that answers my question. I have a 2014 Road King Police that I purchased through an auction from Montgomery County, Texas Sherriff's department. Unfortunately, when they removed the emergency equipment, they went crazy cutting wires. I have been looking at the wiring diagram, but it doesn't help me much. It shows a gray/black wire going to the emergency lights. I see those wires, but I can't seem to get any power to them. They cut the plug that actually connects to the bulb and the wires outside of the housing. The thing is that my bike has a red and a gray wire coming out of the housing, as well as a black that is grounded to the housing. I saw in a thread that said the switch to activate these lights is on the front side of the controls on the left side near the clutch. I see that and have tried that. I also seen in the user's manual that you hold down the switch for the low beams. My bike does not have a toggle switch on the left side by the neck. There was a mick plug there. Please can anyone help me with this? It's about to drive me crazy, and it's a short drive at this point. Thank you in advance.

I cannot help, but do recommend these manuals to work on the bike yourself. These $400 of OEM manuals have already made me money by allowing me to do things. Look on eBay for the used 2014 manuals.
Touring service manual
Touring parts manual
Electronics service manual (2014 and up)
Police supplement

I've read some of these decommissioning stories and figure they are paying someone very little to do it and they just cut the wires. My 2019 I bought from Rossmeyers in Daytona in great working order.

Thanks for replying and the information. I will definitely check them out. I don't understand why they felt the need to cut all of the wires for the emergency lights. Why not just remove the light bulbs and lenses? Afterall they basically function the same on the civilian version as I understand. They are just called Passing lights. They even removed the wiring, so it makes it very difficult to figure out. I also need to figure out the horn and where the turn signals on the mirrors connect. I did reread the owner's manual last night and found how to activate the emergency lights; I haven't tried it yet. You have to push had hold the trigger button. But that doesn't seem to make them stay on continually. I am guessing that's where the second wire comes in. Not sure where they got power from for them though. Like said there was no toggle switch. I did order one last night though. Anyhow, thanks again for replying and the info.

This is from the 2014 owners manual Police models
Emergency Lamp Switch
See Figure 1. The emergency lamp switch is on the right handlebar.
Press the switch to activate both front and rear emergency lamps. The indicator lamp alternates between green and orange to indicate that the emergency lamps are activated.
Press the switch to the left to activate the front emergency lamps. The indicator lamp with illuminate green to indicate that the front emergency lamps are activated.
Press the switch to the right to activate the rear emergency lamps. The indicator lamp with illuminate orange to indicate that the rear emergency lamps are activated.
Emergency lamps continue to operate when the ignition is switched OFF. To shut down the motorcycle completely turn off the emergency lamps and cycle the ignition ON and then OFF.
NOTE
On HDI police models, the alternating flasher should be removed at the factory and placed in the saddlebag. All of the switches are still enabled but the front emergency lights will not flash or illuminate without the flasher.

I have an 02' police that kept having issues. I finally got tired of all the issues. I got a used wiring harness from another 02 standard road king. My mechanic put it on and it has solved more issues than what I even realized. The bike runs better now and I can definitely say it was worth replacing it. I hope you don't have more problems but if you do maybe think about replacing the wiring harness

Well, 14GuineaPig, your manual is the correct one. Although mine says it is for a 2014 Road King Police it is different from yours. I tried the switch and the lights flash, but I don't see a way to make them stay on to use as fog lights. As I mentioned, mine had 2 wires going into the light housing plus a ground mounted to the housing. I was going to run a hot from a toggle switch, even though nine did not have one originally and use it to power the lights for fog lights. I suppose this would work if I ran 2 separate hots through 2 separate toggle switches. However, I wired them together and even before connecting them to a hot I turned on the passing light mode and they were staying on solid because of the hots for the passing light mode being connected to each other. So, I separated them and wired them through a toggle switch. I only did this show that they work so I can get it inspected if they ask to see them work. I'm not planning to use them like that as fog lights. Not until I do more research and make sure it's not going to damage something. Seems to me that I have seen the police bikes with their red and blue emergency lights on solid, not just flashing. Did you get your manual as a PDF or a paperback? Can you look at it and tell me what the part number is? I would like to find one since the one I have is not the right one. I now have to figure out why the high beam is not working. It is getting power, and I checked the ground with an ohm meter. It is good until I turn the key on. I even ran a direct ground, and it still does not work. The bulb is new, and it did the same with the original one. Again, I really appreciate your help.

Under the left side cover, there is a relay that is the flasher. Remove that flasher and then pin a couple of wires and your lights will stay on.

Hi gonibho1, I believe I have read somewhere on this forum where you to talk about doing that. And it has definitely been on my mind, and it scares me to think that I may have to do it. I have been searching for prices on wiring harnesses but have not had any luck. I have the passing lights figured out thanks to 14GuineaPig. However, I can't seem to figure out how to get them to stay on solid to use them for fog lights. Mine had 2 wires going into the housing, plus a ground mounted to the housing inside of it. The bulb is new, and it did the same with the original one. It doesn't seem to be running right either, it could be because it has been sitting a few years though. It has fresh fuel in it and I am going to remove and clean the injectors to see if that helps. Fun, fun, fun!!! I hate wiring problems. Thanks for your reply and have a great day.
