RE: Advice on buying used Ultra
Great advice! Thanks!
I don't know if this is a sign or what, but I had some running to do this morning, and on my trip what is sitting at one of the local markets? A sinister blue and diamond ice ultra. Very nice indeed.
Maybe the Big Man is pushing me in that direction huh?

If you do decide to go with the 02, I would ask some advice on what do do with a bike that has been sitting idle for that long. I've seen a few threads in the past but it wouldn't hurt to start a new one to ask what needs to be done and what precautions need to be taken. Obviouosly full fluid changes and check the tires for dry rotting. But there are other I am sure.
Just an option too. With the influx of late model/low mileage bikes that were traded in on 07 models it might be worth your time shopping around some more. You may be able to snag a newer model with low miles for around the same price you are looking to spend.

The '02 is a much better M\C then the '01 (lots of up-grades over the '01)... If these are all dealer sales then they more then likely have a $1000.00 - $2000.00 mark-up... (see if they'll work with you - as the '02 rider may be more motivated to sell it seeing as he can not ride it)
I would consider the '02 after you give a good once over... Have "ALL" the fluids changed over to a good SYN oil (like AMSOIL or Mobil 1) and buying a warranty might not be a bad thing also...
But the most important thing would be - If it's what "YOU WANT" get it and ride the snot out of it....

Ive owned the following: (Just a few)
93 Classic 95 Ultra 99 Ultra 03 Ultra 07 Rd Glide.. Ide say I know these mcy's pretty well..
I make all repairs and service to my vehicles.
The following happened to more than one of these vehicles..
1. Broken Tour Pak support ( replaced 4 times on 3 different models) where screw goes thru.
moco has sinced changed the design of this bracket ! Thank you!
2. Stock rear exhaust "Y" headerpipe. Cracked 5 of these on3 different mcy's. 2x on the 1988!
moco continues with this terrible design flaw!
3. Cracked Rear Saddle bag support (at lower curve-where it attacheds to rear bumper)
4. speaker support brackets (under fairing) 2 x (due to poor/weak metal + design)
5. Rear Bumper cracked (@ weld)
6. numerous neg. batt cable loosen due to vibration
7. Battery life low due to vibration + or heat related issues.
That stated.. .I continue to buy and ride HD motorcycles...in my opinion , there is no other brand !
PS: BUY HARLEY STOCK!
