in the harsh environment of motorcycles....batts can easily short out....batts these days are sealed and most gel filled and sealed....its fairly easy to break a plate loose inside and it will in turn weld to the other causing a short(dead batt)....some last, some tank, once shorted it'll take a charge but wont hold it, it will also never take a full charge....i have found these things....dont buy an Oddessy, it does not have the reserve to handle your bike....the HD batt works very well....if you have one discharge, it probly aint gonna ever take a charge well again...buy another and be done with it....remember, your bike is a vibrating, hot runnin, harsh place for a battery...its dead, it aint comin back, buy a new one

Most battery problems are caused by gross neglect of the battery itself. If you don't ride very often, the battery will self-discharge within a month - the ECM and/or the security system will pull 60-70 ma even with the engine turned off. Best investment for long term battery life is the Battery Tender. It's computerized to charge the battery when it needs it along with some sophisticated cycles that keep the plates of the battery from sulfating. I plug my bike into the tender every time I park it. If your battery has run down to the point where it will no longer crank the engine, you probably should trash it. Although the HD warranty will cover your battery for 2 years, be sure to tell them you've had it on a tender or trickle charger or they may not cover it due to lack or proper maintenance (we got that interpretation directly from HD).

Well I took the battery to the dealer and verified that the battery is good...It has 400+ cold cranks in tack and 12.7v...All my connections are clean and tight...The service guy asked if I had recently done any handlebar work on the bike. In which I had. He said it also might be a wire that is compromised in the with end of the holes. Especially of I had run the wires internally. He also said to test the starter solenoid. By using a test wire and unplugging the green wire on the solenoid. Using the alligator clamps to the solenoid and clamping the other end to the positive of the battery..All that gave me was more clicks...So I'm ruling out any wire being compromised in the handlebars or under the seat...My next guess would be either a bad starter or the starter relay....At least if it's the starter relay it's less than $10 to replace...
