Could there be damage to the mount?

I'd check into those possibilities...

Back to the sidestand. So the side stand is being pulled down by the spring now? Look at the sidestand mechanism itself. the stand itself, and probably the mount are worn and allowing too much movement. Pull it all apart and inspect. Provide photos of both is you see nothing.

I have seen stand wear out in 10-20 years. None of mine were worn but I keep my jiffy stand assembly lubed with high temp, waterproof, grease. Some folks use anti-seize, but I find that messy.

Looks like he installed the spring wrong, isn't hook on the stand supposed to come from the outside in.
ETA: yup, just checked - spring installed wrong, which probably explains why he has to change them every 20k miles.

I swear I have trouble even saying the word "Jiffy Stand". It sounds like something the Pillsbury Doughboy had for breakfast. I know, I know , it's an old Harley name, but how fuc*ing gay.
