RE: New York/Vermont/New Hampshire/Main
excuse me but my last post got cut short, so let me finish the part about climbing Mount Washington. Most of which is done on well-maintained dirt and lightly groveled roads. When I say maintained its done every day early in the morning! I've written up the road, where the weather at the base the mountain was still 70°. By the time I reached the summit it was below freezing! I observed them spreading water to keep the dust down with one truck, and the truck that was behind it was spreading and I do mean spreading, calcium chloride to the water would not freeze. I'll end this by saying man, you're going to have a fabulous time!!

You'll love the ride. Did a few days riding with the wife through the White Mountain area back a couple weeks ago, awesome!
Fritz982 makes a good point about climbing the Autoroad, becareful with your dad. Brakes can get pretty hot coming down. I posted a pic where you can really see what the road is like. If it's raining, can get pretty hairy. Views are well worth the ride!
You guys are going to have a great ride, enjoy.

If you wind up in North Woodstock, New Hampshire(1 town away from Loon Mountain-Lincoln NH the west end of the Kancamangus Hwy), make sure to ask for "Govonis Italian Restaraunt)....good chow and a waterfall out back....have fun!

I have good news and bad news. The good news is the waterfall is still there but the bad news is that Govonis is not.

Mount Washington at this time of year .. make sue you pack winter riding gear like winter mid January. Weather is unpredictable up there.
they had to cancel a road race up the road 2 weeks ago because of snow/cold/ice.
Kangamangus highway is a must, try to avoid NH on the weekends once the leaves start changing, which will be any second now.

If you're going to be around Killington, a nice loop is north on 100, then west on 125 across Middlebury Gap to 116 north. Take 17 east in Bristol, a right in Rocky Dale to Lincoln and across Lincoln Gap back to 100. Good views - especially from Lincoln Gap.
