Default Crazy anyone price a rear brake job on a Touring bike lately?

I thought my rear pads were more worn they what they were so I called a Harley dealer (yes Jamala00 that one) to get a price for rear brake job. I was told $250 tax-in. I said $250? There are only 2 pads! So I did what every other disgruntled person would do, go to a different HD dealer and bought a brake pad kit.

Did your replacement rear pads have the pattern and goo to silence them like the H-D pads do?

**LOL** I posted seconds after you posted the goo photo!

I was wondering if H-D was still doing that.

two beer job. Maybe 3 if you open one before removing saddle bag!

Of course I would lift the bike up high on my J&S jack so it is a good working height and doesn't hurt my back. **cross thread points??**

I suspect they are charging at least $150 / hr labor and I suspect it would be an hour labor to do the job. Then add in the parts cost and taxes and it gets to $250 fairly quickly.

I have what I believe is a bad rear wheel bearing on my Subaru Outback and the dealer wants 1 hour labor to check it out to be sure it's not tire noise as there is a litt bit of cupping. Their labor charge is $174 / hr, so $174 to check it, which largely means a short road test to confirm. Mabey put it on the lift and shake - spin the wheel a lilttle. If the bearing is bad, it's right at $600 P&L out the door if they don't find other things.

I could do the bearing myself, but I have a lot of things going on that keep me busy with things I'd rather be doing. But I may wait a little while because it's not very noisy and I have no road trips planned for that car.
