Any way to reduce the heat coming off the exhaust?

Design Engineering has heat shield liners that attach to the bottom side of the heat shields. I don't know if they have liners for that exhaust, but they do have some universal kits that may work. I know of people who have used them with their OEM exhaust and say they helped a lot.

I had that "tuner" on my '08 FLHT Stage 2. Went through two of them in fairly short order. They simply were not reliable, and not even good as a paperweight.. That surprised me, as I've had their products in the past that were good quality. Got a Power Commander Six from Fuel Moto. Problem solved. Give them a call, might be able to help.

I was gonna say..." ya know those lowers create a dead air space right around where your leg and the exhaust are". I take them off just like rigid said but I keep a set of soft lowers in the bag in case I get caught in the rain. They do a decent job of deflecting the water from your legs and road grime from getting the entire bike filthy.

I've had an extremely good experience with the V&H FP3 on 2 Ultras now. I like the ability to change the tune by myself immediately when I change something on the bike, the autotune feature is 'good' (but not perfect), and I like the large selection of gauges on the app, as I keep my phone on the handlebars. Customer service has been very responsive when I did need advice or service. I'm sure there are many other brands that work well, too.
