..........When checking the oil do not screw the dipstick in only put it in to where the threads start. This is per the 07 manual.
This must have changed in '08 as my manual says check it with the dipstick screwed fully in.

I pre load the new filter with oil before I install it

ORIGINAL: Black Flag

I was gonna say that when I change oil, the dry (empty) filter takes a while to fill up after I start the bike. Perhaps when you run the bike and bring it up to operating temperatures, the levelin the pan will be lower because now the filter is full ?

Also, isn't it true that there are short and long versions of oil filters for some bikes? I am sure this would account for a difference in capacity as well.

As far as naming my dick goes, that's between me and "him" and whoever is sharing the bed with us! lolol

My '07 Ultra service manual states for cold check: Wipe off the dipstick and insert it back into the oil pan with the cap screwed completely into the spout. Page 1-10 1st column
Same here, except mine's on p. 141-2.

And now you've offended all of us northerners.

(Nice bike, BTW.)

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you yanks out there. Hell, my best friend is a yankee, in fact I married her.
Just having fun.

Starman, I think you done good, boy. You asked a good question, got some good answers (and some bad), made some friends along the way, and also pi$$ed off some people.

Hey,looks like a normal post nowadays in HD Forums. Just remember, you can't please 'em all.
