On the dual plug shovel heads, the plugs were on each side of the head, and accessible without removing the fuel tank.

You're right!
I've never seen that set up.
Removing my dash, disconnecting crossover hose, petcock hose, unbolting both tanks, removing tanks then putting it all back together just to service plugs takes a bit more than a few minutes on my bike.
Your set up is a snap!
Nice motor btw!

Ever hear of antisleeze?

I have. I don't care what the manual says.

This one apparently falls into that common sense category with the oil pan plugs. Flame on.

Well, sometimes if you leave them in there too long, they will be uncooperative when you ask them to come out.

Most spark plugs these days have a sacrificial coating on them to prevent seizing into the cylinder head.

This came about when the rest of the automotive world finally went to aluminum heads.

The spark plug manufacturers say no anti-seize, and on late model Harleys the service manual says clean dry threads.

No, I wish that was mine..... just a pic I found.

A friend had a dual plug shovel back around '81ish. He also had other mods. I remember that bike ran amazing....

But I didn't have the mod sickness back then, and I would have to save my money for an oil change..

Add: BTW, last I checked, autos aren't air cooled..

I just stated the facts that spark plug manufacturers use a sacrificial coating on the threads and they say do not use anti seize, and Harley Davidson also says clean and dry threads in the modern service manuals.

I spent 37 years in a jet engine research and development shop, and one of the things we hated to hear was "because that`s the way we have always done it".

Technology and materials constantly change.

2019 Service manual:

2022 service manual.

Well they don't say not to use antisleeze.. What about if you simply remove the plugs and reinstall? Is the sacrificial coating still good?

NGK says do not use anti seize on NGK plugs, they say nothing about the coating wearing off.

Link to NGK

I don`t use anti-seize on any of my engines, even the 35 year old EVO.
