i suspect they put the time interval in there because if it took you 10 years to do 30,000 miles, those plugs would be welded to the heads due to oxidation.
What happens to the plugs after 2 years? They go bad sitting in the engine?
it has to do with rust and corrosion around the plugs from water sitting down on there, there have been reports about aluminum head material coming out with the spark plugs, if that happens you have to replace/repair the heads.
No need to get your panties in a twist! Change interval is 30,000 miles. How long does it take you to ride 30,000 miles? 10 years or longer?
Only takes a couple minutes to loosen and spin the tank around for plug access.
Yeah not that big a deal but some of us do ride 30,000 miles in a lot less that 10 years.
My 2019 bought late September that year has 30K and I don't ride near as much as I used to.
My last bike a 2000 Electra I put 40K on in the first 2 years I had it.
HOLY CRAP!!
I know HD likes to design things that are hard to reach sometimes but having to remove the tanks to access a pair of plugs is just diabolically evil!!
WTF were they thinking!!!
The spark plugs obviously need to be somewhere on the cylinder head, and the engineers determined they needed to be on the top.
Maybe they should have relocated the fuel tank so people with no mechanical ability could replace the plugs without the incredibly complicated 5-minute job of removing the fuel tank.

I'm gonna guess that 81shovelhd! hasn't worked on one of the newer bikes without a fuel crossover hose on the tank, and doesn't know how easy it is...
On the dual plug shovel heads, the plugs were on each side of the head, and accessible without removing the fuel tank.
