...NO MORE 3,000 RPM TO RID YOUR CLATTER. 2,300 FOR ME NOW AND SMOOTH SAILING FOR ME...
So now you can join those of us who have been saying we can ride our bikes under 3000 rpm in 6th gear without lugging & clatter. Some people don't believe it...

1.Zanottis
ORIGINAL: sifularson
2.Pressed bearing myself , very easy , no different than any other bearing , I used a big socket just make sure you support the back of the sprocket
3.make sure ya have a 36mm socket andwrench or adjustable that big , torque wrench , bike lift
4.diffucultly -3
5. Took me 2 and a half hours but I mounted a new back tire
Go for it you will be happy
Finally, some good, solid info, WITH PICS!!!! I like that. Thank you!

A fewquestions. Please reply when you have time away from riding . . .
1. Where did you buy the IDS?
2. Did they press the bearing in for you?
3. Looks like you did the job yourself with help. I'm a retired Cat mechinic and I do have a HD service manual. Were there any surprises doing the job?
4. On a scale of 1-10 difficulty. Where would you put it?
5. How long did it take you?

My bike has not developed the clatter that many are talking about. I may just do the IDS anyway. Seems like HD should have installed it on my 07 anyway. Since they didn't, I will.

Thanks for the help.

Steve

Thanks for the pics and your post. I bought mine in stock at Battlefield HD (Gettysburg Pa) for 198.00 + tax + 18.00 to press the bearing. They had it in stock and matched Zanottis who didn't have it when I called. Anyway...I'm installing in the AM & hope to post after a great weekend of riding !

Yep, on my bike 1800-1900 in 6th = about 55-60 mph, where it cruises happily all day long.

But some folks will argue till they're blue in the face that that's too low, you're lugging the engine, the sky is falling, the world will end, yadda yadda yadda...

Question on "pressing the bearing". Did you give the folks at BF your IDS parts and they did the press, or did you have to bring your bike in for this? Sorry for what may be a silly question, I bought my kit online from Zanotti's and didn't know about the "pressing" Thanks

I asked my dealer for his best price on the IDS and, when he told me, I laughed athim and toldhim I'd be buying it online just like I buy most everything else.He promply agreed to match Zanotti's price. I'll have to do that more often!
