My reserve is so low the light is essentially worthless. I've seen it a couple times in 10K (both times it was deliberate, trying to see if it even worked) and put 4.9 gallons in within a mile of seeing it. Heaven forbid I see it when out in the country somewhere.

Always set my trip meter.
I've also heard that the fuel in the tank keeps the fuel pump cool and running it out could be a negative thing.
Any truth to this?

Ditto on trip meter

Light will reset if you shut the bike off and restart

Ran to the fuel lite on my 07 FLHR Sunday, then hit the next station - it took 4.32 gallons. Leaves me with over 1/2 gallon, but how far down will it pull?

Ain't going to find out - pushin ain't crowded!

On my '01 RKC it comes on at about 17-180 miles. I gassed up this morning after it had been on for a mile or two and put in 4.3 gallons. I don't trust it though and rarely ever take the bike over 180 miles.

I have 7500 miles on my 07 RKC and have been on several trips. I re-set my "A" trip meter every time I gas up and use my "B" trip meter to keep track of milage between oil changes. My reserve light comes on at about 170 miles and have a couple of times gone to 195 miles before pulling into a gas station, with about a third of a gal of gas still in the tank. I have found that regardless of how fast you drive or how much your loaded down...what effected my milage the most was how much I was using 6th gear. Even cruising at 75 or 80 with gear and a passenger, if I was in 6th gear for most of that tank of gas, my milage was still around 41 or 42 MPG. If I was on a lot of seconday roads cruising 60-65 in 5th gear a lot, my milage drop down to about 32-35...with or without gear or a passenger. I have found that I can cruise in 6th gear on secondary roads at about 60-65 mph if the roads are relitivly flat with no traffic, so I can just cruise and I'm not doing a lot of passing or I'm not constantly speeding up and slowing down. if there is a lot of traffic, I just keep it in 5th so I'm not constantly shifting.

I was on a trip with my brother (he has an 07 Heritage) and he got 50 mpg 2-up...has any one done that with a RK?

My 5 gallon tank holds 5.3 gallons. Usually around 172 miles to light. Leaves 1 gallon or approximately 40 miles.

Don't trust mine at all, comes on "sometimes" at just under what shows as a half tank, then goes off. At 160 I pull, NOT PUSH, into the next station....
