Default What is this star wheel for?

Underneath the left-side hand controls, there's a star wheel. The service manual refers to it as a "Tension Adjuster Screw". Beyond its name and a warning not to set it too tight, the manual makes no other refference to it nor how it should be adjusted. When I first saw the thing, I thought it might be some sort of cheapo mechanical cruise control, but now I don't think so. Any ideas what this thing's purpose is?

Thanks,
-Joe

turn in IN,, and it will put pressure on your throttle tube, thus giving you a dangerous cruise control death twist!!!
turn it out,, alls normal.
its like a set screw on your throttle,,,,,
do us a favor,, dont use it,, I had one,, didnt care for it,,,,,,, had a sticky situation develop when unexpected,,, the thing held my throttle open at the wrong time,,,, thank god for good reflexes!!!

The right side thumb wheel will hold the throttle in a set position. But you said left side and I dont have one there, you must mean the left side of the right side throttle grip

Joe, Check your M.O.M. Motorcycle Owner's Manual. I think it is prob. a throddle tension adjustment. Hence the warning. My ultra doesn't have one but the OL's sporty does.

Yea, what Electarick said. Please leave it out. With engine off make sure you can twist your throttle and its snaps back to idle position on its own.
Years ago down at Jersey shore, it was a Big Joke to open throttle and turn star wheel tight. When rider started his bike it went straight to full throttle.
Do us a Big favor take it out. its not needed.

It's a turbo button. Hit it when you see blue lights flashing in your rear view mirrors![sm=biker.gif]

Originally was put there for fast idle, you don't need it anymore......some use it as a cruise control, very bad idea....

I would remove it, take the temptation away fro you and others....

I set mine just tight enough to hold against the throttle spring but it's still loose enough so I can easilycrank the throttle closed. I use it a lot on long, straight desert roads.

He must have one of those European Harleys if this star wheel is on the left side. I understand everything is reversed for riding in the left lane. Ha
