I hate this!!!! My wifes was like this, of course a dealer did it last. Bought bike used and it had just been to service.. Changed it this spring and it was bad. Used one of those wrenches that the harder you torque the tighter it clamps down and bites into filter.. It came but barely.

4x $10.99 Mobil1 V-twin 20W50 = ~$50 w/tax
2x $21.99 HD Heavy Synthetic Gear Oil = ~$50 w/tax
1x $17.99 K&N 171B oil filter = $20 w/tax
3x o-rings from my sack of 100 = ~$0.30
Supplies Total = ~$120

1 hour x $150/hr for my time = $150
Labor Total = $150

Tools/Knowledge Total = ???

Grand Total = ~$270 + ???

That's the same labor rate I charge my wife to do hers. I do mine for free.

That is what I did when I went to Alaska. Oil was probably ok. But I also think when it comes to oil, it is a lifetime of behavior that add up. Not just one choice. I bet you could do 30k miles without changing it. Would it make it to 100k? Maybe not.

We should start an oil thread to discuss this.

Over 20 years ago I bought an American made socket like oil filter wrench, and I am still using it. Fits mobile 1 too, but not all auto filters. It was about $20. I feel ike it was a good investment, Ratchet and extension and no screwing around,

Not to mention that if we change our own oil, we know that it’s done right.

I usually always do my own.

Next big trip bring o-rings with you and stop at an auto parts store, buy your oil, filter then get an oil pan, funnel, then change your oils in the parking lot, dump old oil in their oil waste drum. Way cheaper and faster than having a dealership do it.

I usually just give the funnel and pan to the person behind the counter. Once the cashier just handed me a Pan and filter someone else already had left.

Be careful not to give yourself a carpal tunnel injury.
