Anyone price a 3 hole change at the dealer lately?

I'm about to try changing all 3 holes myself....I'm pretty mechanically inclined (at least for these fluid changes) but after reading horror stories here on the occasional over-tightened oil filter I'm a bit nervous.
Given what I've read about the occasional stuck oil filter, I'm wondering IF I should try "test loosening" the oil filter BEFORE I drain the oil. My thinking is that IF its "frozen" I could take it to someone who will assist in removing it.
Is my "test loosening" a dumb idea?

yes - do that. I had the same concern with a recently acquired 1978 Corvette and the filter was on so tight I had to go buy a new tool to get it off (the strap that you can put a socket into, worked great BTW). So I bought some peace of mind.
I am not a mechanic and I do all my 3-hole services myself - it is super easy, just take your time doing it for the first time and watch a few youtube videos for extra confidence

Definitely not a bad idea.... But I would do it at home. However, I would stop short of damaging the filter if it appears stuck... A little dent won't hurt anything, but don't do actual damage unless you are going to "see it through"...
That is also why many people say NOT to drain the primary UNTIL you get the derby cover off.... If you strip a bolt or two on the derby cover, and you already drained the primary oil, you will need to fix it yourself, or tow it to a place to get help...

I once bought a 66 Chevy nova ll in 1984 or 85, the oil filter was so tight I eventually took an acetylene torch to the seal area. I had a fire extinguisher stand by since there was alot of oil around that area, it came off pretty easy while it was still hot. I bet that filter hasn't been off the car since 1967 , i eventually installed a small block 350 bored and stroked to a 400. I rebuilt the 6cly and 3 on the tree transmisson hat came in it so when I sold the car the original engine and transmission went with it, surprisingly the engine was in really good shape. I sold the car about 5 yrs later when I was 23, the guy that bought the car was ecstatic I still had the original engine and transmission.
