if you've got some time on your hands, an over night ride up to Shiloh Natl Battlefield near TN/MS border is a good ride... you can take the Trace a fair amount of the way up there... i'd reccomend any of the civil war battlefields as worthy stops in the south... some great historical significance worth seeing and experiencing... just my .02

or " War between the States". Civil War doesn't take as long to type. Vicksburg just started celebrating the 4th of July several years ago. Vicksburg fell to Grant on theJuly 4, 1863 and it took many generations to pass before anyone felt like celebrating the birth of the nation.Sherman and Grant intended to break the back of the south by destroying everything and everybody in their path.

Thanks...lots of good recomendations. I will be riding Hwy 61 north from LA. I intend to do the Military Park. I have riden the trace before and it can be a bit boring at times, no offense to the local folks.

I'm interested in finding some back roads to do some riding.

I appreciate all the feedback...

I ride the trace often and it is boring as hell plus the 50 MPH is tough.

Natchez isa great town to visit. Most of the Old Plantations are still there. Vicksburg was burned by the damn yankees in the war of northern aggression, but the folks in Natchez surrendered without a fight, so their plantations and old homes were spared. Many of the old homes are now B&Bs. The Old River road is a nice ride without a lot of traffic, but don't go to far without gassing up. Natchez trace is a very good ride, no commercial traffic and few vehicles.
have a great time!
