I fixed a lost exhaust nut in a parking lot today.
Lost a nut right before we were pulling in for lunch. Exhaust leak pop pop... Used the nut off of a spare shift linkage that happens to match the exhaust studs on the 96"... 5/16-24. Not a very common thread, so I'm really glad it worked. Then I rode home. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...0d54c2c2e6.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...e447dc30c4.jpg |
Just ordered the Hog Tunes Gen 4 Amp and front speaker kit for the Street Glide. Got a great price from Parts Giant $380.28, compared to Revzilla and J&P Cycles at $519.95. This kit is all plug and play and the best bang for my buck. I just want alittle better sound but not blow away the neighbors like some guys I hear coming and going.

added a little red accent, matches the plug wires nicely. just some red touch up paint applied with the applicator brush, cleaned the excess off with nail polish remover on gun cleaning patches after it dried.

Once I gave up adding a Double din radio and faring to the bike, I began thinking about this very thing. I still need a new faring, the original is showing its age and milage. If I do ad an amp, I will need to remove or relocate the CB. Speakers and amp are $360 at PG. Still thinking it over. Edit 2 Speaker for a 2009 FLHTCU |
Inspected and lubed the steering head bearings
Added 1.5” tank lift. Swing test tomorrow to get the bearings tightened to spec. |
Got my bars put on KST Bison's in 14" (I really really REALLY F'n hate pulling wires), tour pack and passenger floor boards for the wife, and highway pegs (used the old passenger ones). I still have to do the drivers backrest but I am tired and done messing with it. Did I mention how much I HATE pulling wires. I do have a TC/ABS lights on but I bump the power a few times while I had the abs unplugged. Going for a shake down ride tomorrow just to make sure everything works.

I've read a lot of reviews on the Hog Tunes setup and 90% were very positive. Of course you always have the complainers. For the money and ease of install it is supposed to be much better than stock. I'm all about plug and play installs lol. Of course there are much better quality and higher priced components out there but I don't need all that. I don't Bluetooth or wear a full face helmet with comm sets and cameras. I don't use my phone on the bike except for GPS needs at times. I'm still using a I-Tunes shuffle that I plug into the USB port on the Glide for my music lol.

Yup I agree. I still have an iPod with a hard drive in the truck with 15,000 songs 🥴. All my nano iPods have long since crapped out. Now I stream to a blue tooth receiver that I plug in to the radio. .
I know folks upgrade their speaker wires to heavier gage wire, and install signal converters with RCA jack's, new head units, etc, etc. I'm not fooling myself thinking this Hog Tunes kit is the cream of the crop, it utilizes the stock wiring and you don't have to modify the speaker pods for huge magnets and flash the bike or any of that. Just install and be on your way. |

Yeah our shuffles will crap out eventually than I'm not sure what to do. I'll cross that bridge when it comes.

Just install and be on your way. If I can hear the sound over the wind and exhaust then I'm good. People can spend all kinds of $$$ on components for your bike and if that is what they want, good for them. The bike is a harsh environment for expensive stereo equipment that can be stolen, ruined due to water leaks, and heaven forbid, destroyed in an accident. I just want to enjoy the ride with tunes. My Nano was loaded with about 1000 songs, The iPod 20 (with a hard dive) has 15,000 but can't take the vibration. My new iPhone and a blue tooth receiver, does very well with Spotify. I loaded about 1000 songs in a play list and Spotify seems to be intuitive and plays songs that are similar as well. The free version plays commercials and I may end up paying for it to get rid of the commercials and I'd get better sound quality too. I went back to parts giant and found a 4 channel system with 4 speakers and an amp for $444. If I get this package this would upgrade my speakers and add a 4 channel amp to provide decent (Not Great) sound. Just replacing the speakers on my bike would add better sound. Adding the amp would be the cherry on the cake. It's to complement the ride and make it more enjoyable. Again, I think you made a good choice. |
