I had the same problem with an AdvanBlack TP mounting bracket. It was impossible to fit - the rear openings were too narrow and the flanges too widely set, by almost half an inch. Got an OEM bracket, and holding them side by side it was obvious why the AB one could not possibly fit. Never got a response from AB customer support. Needless to say the HD bracket fit exactly like I'd expect: snug but goes right on.

How about widening the tourpak mount opening rather than turning the spindle? You know the chrome spindle is the correct diameter. While you may have no intentions of adding anything now, never know about the future. Will also save any future owners the headaches as well. Pull the plastic, hit it with a dremel or angle grinder and put the plastic back on. Plastic to plastic is .753 and metal to metal is .9925

First? Thank you for going through the trouble of taking those measurements and posting the pix and while your suggestion of tweaking things open (as it is only a little bit) is a great one? I could probably get away with that if my mounting bracket were chrome like yours but it's been my experience that if I tried to do the same with my black powder coated bracket? The finish in that area could easily start looking like a GA roadmap with cracking and that would suck to the point that the risk is not worth the reward because once P-coated? Moving shee4t metal is never a good idea for the coating but I truly appreciate the thought and effort you put forth. Thanks!

I like your idea. I would also remove enough metal to fit a pair of HD's "C" shaped bushings. Your HD bushings appear to be nearly six times as thick as the HW bushings. The OP mentioned his are only .020 thick. I would think the thicker bushings would provide more cushion, and last longer. Protect the bare metal with a touch-up pen. The bushing will cover the touch-up job. I've used the touch-up pen to repair stone chips in black power coat that exposed bare metal. I've never experienced any cracking in the powder coating surrounding the repair.

Well, at least you now have both sizes for when you put on the H-D stuff.

I had no idea there was rotational adjustment to take out the rattles.

Yep and the way I figure is outside of deep cleanings? the TP will always be mounted. It's just to handy to not have on the bike at all times and I have no other attachments and why would I when I have a TP?

If I ever sell the bike? The HD spools will be on it and if I ever sell just the TP? These custom turned spools will go with it but I'm 65 and don't see either of those events occuring. Either way? Situation handled and no harm no foul.

Incidentally? The TP dang near mounted itself. I simply lined up the two front C's and the moment I lowered it to supporting its own weight? All I heard was "Click, Click".

Thanks again man!
