Analog Tach issues…..minor
So, I have had this speedo/tach on my 22RKS since last FEB
Speed works fine, but occasionally the tach will start at anywhere between 3000-7000RPM……the bike’s still idling around 950 (verified with PV3). If I switch off the bike and wait a few minutes, and then restart, it will sometimes go back to normal idle and associated RPMs. Some days, it works just fine, others it won’t. I’ve pulled the dash, rechecked all the connections. Is it just a queertron, or is something effed up. Yeah, I said queertron because all the PC **** can kiss my @ss

Called MoCo. They said that even though I bought this online and installed myself, I still have to take the bike to the dealer(1.5 hours away) so that they can hook it up and see what’s causing the problem. I’m gonna bet they say the aftermarket tune (from FuelMoto) is whats causing the tach to have issues and there fore won’t be covered……any bets on whether this happens or not?
On top of that, I don’t even trust their service department to check the air pressure in my tires, let alone hook up a digital thingamajiggy to see whats going on with a tachometer…..
We shall see, unless anybody has any ideas….

If PV is saying the rpms are correct. I'd suspect that the tach is going bad. Control is done through a stepper motor. They full cycle the needle at ignition on. It sounds like the needle is binding and not returning to zero so the rpm reference is off.
Example.. When it fails the RPMs read say 3000. Using PV, increase the RPMs to 3000. If the tach reads 5000 it did not properly find 0 rpm.
