Default Dunlop tire failure

I rode 4000 miles on a new d 402 rear tire on my 06 ultra. When I returned home I noticed chuncks of rubber missing in the center of the tread. I'm talking a chunck the size of a nicklemissing at the point of the tread pattern all around the tire. That's about 15 pieces gone. I bought a new tire for a road trip last week and upon returning I see that the same thing has happened to this tire in 3600 miles. Has anyone had this same thing happen? I'll be calling Dunlap tomorrow.

I had the same thing happen to BOTH tires... front and rear.... dealer gave no explanation and i was pissed, but they were covered under the tire warranty (paid for itself with both tires) after the front was replaced 100 or so miles later the rear was replaced, but not before a "Harley rep" came to look at the rear tire... since they thought i was trying to pulling a fast one.

Never did get an explanation other than... " thats odd..."

bought the bike used... not sure what the "original" mileage was on them when i got them...
