Default 07 RKC stock pinging at altitude

Did a 900 miler this week through Yosimite and into Reno. When at altitude between 6000 and 9000 ft. I had noticeable pinging at throtle role on. I know that this was normal on my carborated bike, but is normal on a fuel injected model. Its bone stock....

I live in Reno and oftenride to elevations of 8500+ in the mountains. When my 07 SG was stock, it pinged no matter what altitude I was in &no matter what gas I used...same thing. Its the lean design of the 07 motors.

I did the Stage 1: Ness AC, Fuelpak & Supertrapp SEs... greatly reduced overall pinging but I still get it sometimes during a hard or fast roll-on acceleration. V&H has not been able to cure this for me.

Higher altitude neans thinner air which enrichens a Carbed bike ( can be ugly with a S&S jetted for sea level). But on a FI motor, the ECM does its adjustments and so its still lean no matter.

Its just the way the 07 & 08s are ....

You need a fuel management unit.. AF is too lean.

Get a Power Commander piggyback unit. Even if you don't want to mess with the fuel, you can alter the ignition timing with it. Drop it back a couple of notches in the problem areas.
