This may seem like a trite question, but what is the oil capacity on a 2007? The manual says 4 qts with filter in the capacities section and the oil change section says to add 3.5 qts. Thanks
Must be something wrong with mine, then. I changed the oil and filter. Put the 3½ quarts in the tank and didn't need to add any more; it's right at the full mark. Should I be looking for something somewhere?
If you thoroughly drain the engine and replace the filter, you can stuff four quarts into it. I followed the directions that said to add 3.5 quarts at first (replaced filter, of course) and then to check it (which means to ride the bike until it's hot, let it idle a bit, shut it off and place it on the jiffy stand). The level was halfway between "add" and "full", which is fine. I could have added another half a quart, but there is no advantage to that. I don't know about Harleys, but BMWs will use more oil if you add oil to the top of the range. I've checked the oil level on my 07 Road King several times after changing oil for the first time, and it hasn't used a bit.
So I prefer to just add 3.5 quarts with a filter change. First oil change, I let it drain overnight, so I think it was pretty empty.
I put 4 qts into mine. I drained the oil hot on the center stand for a few hours with the old filter removed. Aftre spinning on the new filter, I added 4 quarts and it brought te level up to just slightly below the full line on the dipstick.
