I think it is because they have the opening for the light bulb. If they sealed them and a bulb went out you would have to replace the whole gauge.
You would think they could put a rubber boot or something on them but then it would take alot longer to dry out.
Maybe some dielectric grease around the bulb connection would keep things dry.
Good idea iclick. I will probably have my fairing apart this weekend to install oil temp guage, and will try that as a precaution.

I'll try to Di-electric grease, above question, had two Ultras and never had the problem, its just a minor thing, my first Road glide and really enjoying it, month old and 2,200 miles.
