Clatter fixed - Night and Frikken Day
If you have the clatter problem, get the IDS. Clattered over to the dealer today, had them install the IDS and a floating rotor to the rear brake ( switching over to floaters as I remove each wheel, nothing to do with the clatter ). Drove home from dealer with a highway detour to check it out, what a difference, no clatter at 55 mph in 6th gear, I know I was lugging but had tocheck it out, no clatter whatsoever in any gear. Dont really undersatnd the physics behind it but it works. The service manager did not understand my complaint and was nervous I would hold them responsible if it did not fix the problem, told him to just make the change I already hold HD responsible not the dealer.Think Harley found a cure for the rash of complaints theymust have beengetting, wish they would pick up the tab but wont hold my breath. I loved my bike evenwith the clatter, now I love it even more. This is one of two issues I had with it, the other is heat. Ialready have the stage one set up, Mobil 1, all SE,MAP fix thatHarley put out, now thinking SERT or one of the others out there, DTT, PC111, TM, reading the post histories a lot of opinions so I will wait and think some more on this, planning to get the heads done byBigBoyzand possible camchange out when warranty runs out in a year, staying with the 96" because of reported crank bering issue,so I really have to think about this so I dont do double work or waste money.
P.S.Sorry about the long post but I amvery happy with this fix.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is an IDS? I also have a black cherry over pewter 07 Road King and share the clatter. I haven't done any modsto the engine yet to deal with the heat issue, but will in time. I am anxious to find out more about this IDS you are referring to. Thanks!

Well, here it is. I went to the dealer today and had them install my IDS. I ordered it from Zanoitt last week, it showed up on Monday this week. I called my deater and made an appointment to have it installed, theysaid about a hour to an hour and a half labor. While waiting at the dealer I was having thoughts about it not giving me the results I was expecting. 45 min later it was done. The dealer only charged me 54 dollars for the install. I fired it up and off I went. I kew the bike had cooled down so I wasnt expecting anything yet. Well 60 miles later in 98 degree heat and NO Noise, even the 5 gear whine is 60% less. I had a hard time telling when I was in 5th to be honest. I lugged it down to 30 mph in 5th, NO Noise! 40 mph in 6th, NO Noise! 50mph in 5th, NO Noise, No Comp Noise at all at any speed or gear, No clatter or chatter at all at any speed or gear. Bike vibrates 80%less and 6th is much more enjoyable. 65 - 70 in 6th and it is a joy to ride. Do yourself a favor and get an IDS. You will fall in love with your Harley again. Thanks to all of you who keep us bikers informed.
PS. The wrench that installed my IDS said this was the shops first and asked me to call him and give him the results.
