Default Custom Paint: HELP!

I couldn't wait for my color choice on the 08 ultra (looks like mid to late september - maybe even early October), but another local dealer has a vivid black 08 with the ABS (I wanted the ABS).I wasn't really overly thrilled with any of the colors, to be honest. It looks like I'll buy this black oneand then spend the $5000 or so to have it custom painted this winter.

Has anyone gone the route of custom paint or considered it? Pros? Cons? I appreciate the advice!

Chil

Well, black will be easier to repair and order replacement parts for. Plus, it is a timeless color IMO. I thought about getting some custom stuff done, but I know that I will never go out in the garage and hate that vivid black.

If you want to spend that mutch talk to the dealer about the Harley tin exchange program. The Moco does have an outstanding paint department.

$5k is a lot to spend on paint. But, if you have the cash. There are some good local guys around here that I have spoken to about some paint work, they both said for what I was looking for, $2500 would cover it. But, I would have to have the tins removed and take them to them.

I must admit, I'm not impressed by the colors offered for the Road Kings. I like black, but just about every Road King in my town (and there a lot) are black. If I decide to get new RK, I'm thinking a custom paint as well. I was hopeing for a lot less then $5000 however.

Papa Travis are you going to hard bags too? I want a custom paint job, but it seems I'm limited with my leather bags.

I have had four bikes painted from mild solo color to some wild airbrushing all done by pros. And $5000 is way too much for paint. Go to local bike shows or large bike nights and check out other peoples paint. Then find out who done the job and go from there.

I'm guessing I can get it done for less than $5000 too, but maybe that was with the tin swap.
